Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces, Inserts, Stoves and Heaters by Napoleon, Monessen, Empire, Lexington Forge, Vanguard and Hearthstone.

Monessen HDV Direct Vent Gas FireplaceNapoleon, Empire, Monessen, Lexington Forge, Vanguard, and Hearthstone Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces, gas fireplace stoves, and gas fireplace inserts, and direct vent heaters offer a convenient option - installation flexibility.   Just a hole through the wall behind or above the fireplace or heating unit will bring outside air in and return the flue gases back to the outside through a double wall flue pipe.  This sealed system is safe and efficient because no air from the home is used for combustion.

A sealed-combustion direct-vent fireplace is by far the most efficient fireplace option. Since the entire operation is independent of the household air, with sealed combustion direct vent fireplaces there are no drafts and no heat loss. In fact, these fireplaces operate at a near 90 percent efficiency rate. AFUE-rated fireplaces can generate as much heat as a furnace?upwards of 40,000 Btu in some cases?and should be taken into account in any heating and cooling calculations for your home.

LAM Enterprises offers a large variety of direct vent gas multi-sided fireplaces in see thru, peninsula, arched and traditional styles of direct vent gas fireplaces.

All of the products we sell are AGA, RADCO, CSA, ICBO, UL, ULC approved.

Direct Vent Fireplaces, Gas Fireplace Inserts, See-Through Gas Fireplaces, and Peninsula Gas Fireplace Inserts

Empire Luxury Direct Vent Gas FireplaceWhile a traditional wood burning fireplace provides an open burning chamber that vents through a chimney, a direct vent fireplace does not require a chimney, and can vent horizontally out a sidewall or vertically to the roof. The direct vent fireplace also has a completely enclosed chamber that is highly efficient, drawing in air for combustion from the outside and expelling gasses to the outside as well. The front glass enclosure is porous, allowing radiant heat to pass into the room.

The direct vent fireplace heats a room without robbing it of oxygen or of the heated air it is providing, while also keeping it free of fumes and combustible materials such as embers or ash.

Napoleon Linear HDL48 Direct Vent Glass Fire FireplaceA direct vent fireplace can be a wonderful choice for rooms in which a traditional fireplace is not practical or possible. Aside from providing clean warmth and the cheery glow of real fire, a direct vent fireplace saves space by allowing furniture to be positioned directly to either side with "zero clearance." This simply means that while heat is radiated out the front glass, the sides are safe for combustibles to butt up against the firebox. A direct vent fireplace can also be optionally inset into a wall.

Dura Vent Direct Vent Flue SystemThe venting system of a direct vent fireplace consists of a double-walled pipe, or pipe-within-a-pipe. The inner pipe provides venting to the outside, while the outer pipe carries outside air into the fireplace. As the outside air is sucked into the venting system, it's heated by the hot central venting pipe, improving efficiency.

Though a direct vent fireplace does not require electricity, it does require a propane or natural gas pipeline for fuel and burns logs specifically made for direct vent models.

Napoleon GD81 See-thru Fireplace with Stones or LogsA direct vent fireplace can come in many configurations with various kits and trim. Some kits are designed to look like a traditional fireplace, complete with mantle, while others are more modern. Many direct vent fireplaces carry the certification of wall gas furnaces, and their flexibility makes them extremely popular.

Prices vary depending on manufacturer, installation needs and model, but in general these fireplaces are far less expensive than installing a traditional fireplace, while providing many advantages.

If you've always wanted a fireplace but didn't think it was possible -- or considered the traditional fireplace too messy -- you might consider a direct vent fireplace. It could be just what your home needs for those crisp winter nights.

Fireplace Inserts

Monessen Direct Vent Gas Fireplace InsertInserts are designed to fit in an existing wood burning fireplace and be vented through an existing chimney via a special vent pipe that carries the fumes to the outside. Inserts are comprised of a metal firebox that contains the decorative logs and gas jets. The inner firebox is surrounded by a layer of air and a second metal layer to contain the air that is warmed by the inner firebox. When ignited, the fireplace insert draws in fresh air, warms it between the two boxes, and sends it up through the top of the box and into a room.

Air for combustion air is drawn in from a second vent pipe (sealed combustion) or, in some cases, from the room itself (Natural Vent Models).  Many models offer a fan or blower to boost the delivery of warm air to the room and encourage a more even distribution of heat.

One of the greatest features of any glass-front fireplace is the radiant heat with which it warms the room. Radiant sources provide steady, continuous heat by transferring that heat to other objects in the room. Many gas fireplaces provide both warm air and a radiant heat surface to warm the space around them.

Questions and Answers regarding Direct Vent Gas Appliances

What is a Direct Vent Fireplace

Direct vent fireplaces are high efficiency, sealed gas fireplace systems.  Fresh air s pulled from the exterior of the house via the flue and burned within the confines of the combustion chamber.  By products of combustion are vented horizontally (to an outside wall) or vertically (to the roof) and will minimize heat loss through the chimney.  A sealed direct vent fireplace system will not spill or back draft by products of combustion into the living space and are approved for bedrooms or bathrooms.

Can a direct vent gas fireplace be installed in a corner

Most direct vent gas fireplaces can be installed in a corner.  In fact, there are corner cabinets that are perfect for corner installations.

What is the difference between "steady state" efficiency and AFUE

Steady State:  An efficiency rating is testing only the efficiency of the fireplace when it is burning.  AFUE:  (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) both the on cycle and off cycle are calculated in this rating.  By including the off cycles (when the fireplace is turned off) a more accurate yearly operational cost can be estimated.

What size tank is required for a gas fireplace

Most manufacturers require using at least a one hundred gallon or larger tank.  Do not use a twenty-pound cylinder.  Undersized tanks are known to cause problems during extreme cold conditions.

Clean flame

Because of the specific burner elements present in the system, this system produced much more controlled burning compared to their other counter parts. This controlled burning helps in producing clean, yellow flame causing complete burning of the gas.

No ashes, sparks

There is a complete absence of any dirty ashes or dangerous flash and sparkles thanks to the presence of the sealed glass combustion chamber.

Control Options

It gives you the facility of instant on and off. You can control the system by both ways- manual or remote.

Creosote Buildup

There is no more creosote buildup, a thick yellow to brownish oily substance derived from wood tar or possibility of chimney fires.

What do Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces use for fuel

Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces and gas inserts
use either natural gas or liquid propane. Natural gas fireplaces are the most popular option and typically generate more heat than fireplaces that use liquid propane, which are generally used only in places where natural gas is not available.

Can they be used when the power is out

Direct Vent Gas fireplaces and gas fireplace inserts can also be used as a back-up heating source during power failures because they require no electricity.  The blower system is the only component that requires electricity and that will not function without electricity.

Are Direct Vent gas fireplaces expensive to operate

Because they are 65% to 90% efficient, vented gas fireplaces are generally quite inexpensive to operate as opposed to wood burning fireplaces.  A direct vent's BTU (British Thermal Unit) output determines how much fuel it will use. Contact your local gas provider for current information regarding specific gas and operation costs.

What is the difference between standard and see-through direct vent gas fireplaces

Standard direct vent gas fireplaces are for standard, front-view fireplaces. See-through (2 sided) or peninsula (3 sided) style gas direct vent fireplaces are specifically designed for multi-sided viewing. These gas fireplaces have a special burner system that directs the fire in such a way that it looks appealing and natural from various angles.

Should I use a carbon monoxide detector in conjunction with a vented gas log

Any energy source can produce carbon monoxide, which is why a detector is recommended in every home.
